COP28 pledges meet only 30% of needed energy emission cuts: IEA

0
The COP28 climate summit pledges fall short of reducing energy-related greenhouse gas emissions by the necessary amount by 2030, according to the International Energy Agency. The agency's report states that while the pledges are positive steps, they are insufficient to meet global climate targets, including limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Methane emissions, responsible for one-third of current greenhouse gas warming, will be addressed by 50 oil and gas companies, along with the elimination of routine flaring by 2030. Animal agriculture is also a significant source of methane.
